Vietnam’s tourism and travel sector has enjoyed unprecedented growth since the opening of its markets in the 1990s. In 2009, close to US$4 billion in tourism receipts was generated by the industry. Along with the healthy growth of the inbound tourism and travel sectors, outbound tourism has also taken off in recent years. With higher standards of living, increasing disposable income, easier air travel and budget airlines, and growing optimism Vietnamese are taking to outbound tourism with great gusto.
